A note on this table. Fees shown are total program fees (4-year), based on 2025–2026 admission notices and aggregator listings as of April–May 2026. Verify the current year's fee directly with each college before applying : fee structures revise annually. Hostel, transport, and exam fees are not included in these figures.
Before you compare colleges, you need to understand what you are studying. In Nepal, the four most common IT bachelor's degrees are very different in structure, length, entrance requirements, and career path. Picking the wrong degree at the right college is worse than picking the right degree at the second-best college.
A 4-year (8-semester) program focused on the infrastructure side of IT : networking, system administration, database management, cybersecurity, and software development. BIT is the closest equivalent in Nepal to a generalist "IT degree" in the international sense.
A 4-year (8-semester) program offered under TU's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. BCA is more software-development focused than BIT : heavier on programming, web development, and application building.
A 4-year, math-and-science-heavy program from TU. Considered the most theoretically rigorous IT degree in Nepal.
Bachelor of Computer Science / BSc in Information Technology programs run in Nepal under foreign university affiliation : typically Malaysian, UK, or US universities (Taylor's, Nilai, Sunderland, Wolverhampton, Westcliff, APU).
There is no single "best" IT college in Kathmandu, because the right college depends on which degree you want, what you can afford, and where in the city you can realistically commute to. Here is the honest breakdown.
TU has granted BIT affiliation to a small number of colleges. These are the most competitive seats in Nepal : for context, only the top ~300 IOST BIT scorers typically secure admission.
Total fees at TU BIT government-affiliated campuses are typically NPR 3.5–4 lakh, making them outstanding value : if you can clear the entrance.
This is where your options widen significantly. These colleges run BIT (or equivalent BSc IT) programs under partnerships with overseas universities. The degree comes from the foreign university, and the program is taught in Nepal.
TU BCA is the most popular IT degree in Nepal by sheer student numbers. With 56 colleges in Kathmandu running BCA and 35 seats per private college, getting into a good BCA college matters more than getting into BCA itself.
BSc CSIT requires +2 Science with Mathematics. The flagship CSIT colleges in Kathmandu are:
Padmashree College is the right answer for you if:

We are confident enough in Padmashree's fit that we are willing to tell you when another college is the better choice. That clarity is the whole point of an honest guide.
Fee transparency is rare in Nepal's college landscape. Here is what total program fees actually look like for IT degrees in Kathmandu in 2026, based on published admission notices and aggregator data:

At Padmashree, total program fees for BIT (Nilai University, Malaysia) and BCA (TU) sit comfortably in the affordable mid-range for international and TU programs respectively. We publish exact fee structures on each program page and through our admission counsellor : call +977-1-4112252 or visit our Tinkune campus, and we will give you the full breakdown including any scholarship you may qualify for.
A genuine principle for parents reading this: a college that won't tell you the total fee until after you've filled the inquiry form is hiding something. Padmashree's fee structure is published; ask any college you shortlist for theirs in writing before you decide.
This is the section that the rest of the IT-college articles in Nepal don't write honestly. Let's address it directly.
Every year, thousands of +2 graduates sit the TU IOST entrance for BIT and BSc CSIT. Of these, only a small fraction secure seats in their preferred college. For BIT specifically, only the top ~300 scorers reliably get into Amrit Science Campus and Patan Multiple Campus.
If you are in the position of having sat the IOST entrance and not got the result you hoped for : or if you are choosing not to sit it at all : you are not out of options for an IT career. Foreign-affiliated BIT programs in Nepal exist precisely for this scenario.
Padmashree's BIT program is offered under direct franchise affiliation with Nilai University, Malaysia. The degree certificate is issued by Nilai University. It is recognized by Nepal's MoE through Curriculum Development Centre equivalence and is widely accepted by Nepali employers and Master's admission offices abroad. Students can verify all of this with us before applying : bring your questions to the admission desk.
The IT college you choose is somewhere you will commute to 6 days a week for 4 years. Where it sits on the Kathmandu map matters more than most students realize when they're 17 and exhilarated by an admission letter.
Before you commit to any college, do this once: take public transport from your home to the college at 8:00 AM on a working day. Time the entire trip. Repeat at 5:00 PM. If either leg crosses 90 minutes, you are signing up for a tough four years : reconsider, or factor in hostel costs.
For students from Bhaktapur, Thimi, Lokanthali, Suryabinayak, and the eastern suburbs, Tinkune-area colleges are the natural fit : the Ring Road feeds straight into Tinkune Chowk. For students from Lalitpur, Pulchowk, Patan Dhoka and Sankhamul, Patan Dhoka, Maitighar, and Thapathali colleges minimize commute. For students from Swayambhu, Balaju, and Banasthali, Putalisadak, Naxal, and Kamalpokhari are most accessible.
This is not a marketing point. It's the difference between four years of energy spent learning vs. four years of energy spent commuting.
This is the section parents skip to. Be honest with them.

Salaries scale fastest with portfolio quality, not degree title. A BCA graduate with three live projects on GitHub and one open-source contribution will out-earn a BSc CSIT graduate with only coursework : every time. We see this every year with our own alumni.
Deerwalk, Leapfrog Technology, Fusemachines, Cotiviti, F1Soft, eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, Daraz, Logpoint, CloudFactory, NIC Asia (IT division), Nabil Bank (IT operations), Verisk Nepal, InfoDevelopers, Yipl, Fusemachines, Genesys, Insight Workshop, plus the growing remote-international segment (Toptal, Upwork, freelance contracts with US/EU agencies).
This is increasingly important. Roughly half of all IT graduates from Kathmandu colleges pursue a Master's abroad : most commonly USA, Australia, UK, and (in recent years) Germany.
For students at Padmashree, the Nilai University, Malaysia degree gives a clean credit-transfer pathway into Master's programs in the UK, Australia, USA, Canada, and across the Asia-Pacific. We help interested students with the application paperwork in their final year.
Skip everything else and answer these seven questions honestly. Your best-fit IT college will fall out of your answers.
There is no single best IT college in Kathmandu : it depends on the degree you want, your entrance exam status, and your budget. For TU BIT, Amrit Science Campus and Patan Multiple Campus are top choices if you clear the IOST entrance. For foreign-affiliated BIT without an entrance exam, Padmashree College (Tinkune, Nilai University Malaysia), ISMT, and Islington are all strong choices. For BSc CSIT, Deerwalk, St. Xavier's, and Prime College lead.
All three lead to similar starting salaries (NPR 25,000–60,000/month for entry roles). Hiring managers prioritize portfolio and skills over degree title. BCA is favoured for software development roles, BIT for IT generalist and infrastructure roles, and BSc CSIT for research-heavy and AI/ML roles. Pick the degree whose curriculum best matches the work you actually want to do.
Yes. Foreign-affiliated BIT programs in Nepal : including Padmashree's BIT under Nilai University Malaysia : admit students without a national-level entrance exam. Admission is based on +2 marks (typically 45% minimum) and a college-level interview. The TU BIT route requires the TU IOST entrance.
TU BIT at government colleges costs around NPR 3.5–4 lakh for the full 4 years. Foreign-affiliated BIT programs typically range NPR 4.5L–13L total, depending on the partner country. Malaysian-affiliated programs (Nilai, Lincoln, APU) sit in the NPR 4.5L–8L range. UK-affiliated programs (Sunderland, Wolverhampton, London Metropolitan) sit in the NPR 8L–13L range.
Padmashree College has been running BIT under Nilai University Malaysia and TU BCA since 2007. It is located in Tinkune, Kathmandu, accepts students for BIT without an entrance exam, and is a reasonable fit for students seeking an internationally-recognized IT degree at affordable fees in central Kathmandu. It is not the right fit for students who specifically want BSc CSIT (Padmashree does not offer CSIT) or a UK/US-only-affiliated degree. Your honest fit depends on your goals : visit the campus before deciding.
Yes. Nilai University, Malaysia is recognized by Nepal's Ministry of Education through the Curriculum Development Centre equivalence process. The Bachelor of Information Technology from Nilai is treated as equivalent to TU 70% for the purpose of further studies and government job applications in Nepal.
TU BCA runs at 56 colleges in Kathmandu, with 35 seats per private college. The most respected private BCA colleges include Padmashree International College (Tinkune), Thames International (Old Baneshwor), Texas International (Mitrapark), KCMIT (Putalisadak), and Prime College (Nayabazar). Government BCA seats at TU constituent colleges fill via the TU BCA entrance exam.
The two main BIT colleges in Tinkune, Kathmandu are Padmashree International College (BIT under Nilai University, Malaysia) and ISMT College (BSc Hons Computer Systems Engineering under University of Sunderland, UK). They differ in affiliation country, curriculum, and fees : Padmashree's Malaysian affiliation typically results in lower total fees, while ISMT's UK affiliation is positioned at premium pricing. Both are reachable on foot from each other; visit both before deciding.
For TU BIT and BSc CSIT, the IOST entrance application window typically opens in Shrawan–Bhadra (mid-July to mid-September). For TU BCA, the entrance application typically opens in Bhadra (late August / September). For foreign-affiliated BIT programs, admission for the September intake usually opens by July; secondary intakes run in January and June at most foreign-affiliated colleges. Check each college's official admission notice for the current cycle's exact dates.
Generally no : these are different degrees with different syllabi, different affiliations, and (often) different universities. Switching means starting again from semester 1 of the new program. Choose carefully at the start. If you're unsure, talk to the admission counsellor about which program your interests genuinely match.
If after reading this guide you'd like to see if Padmashree is the right fit for your IT future, you're welcome at our Tinkune campus any working day, Sunday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. No appointment needed. Walk in, ask hard questions, see the labs, talk to current students.
We'll tell you honestly whether Padmashree is right for you. If it's not, we'll point you to the college that is.
